Changing times have forced the Taiwan Salt Co. out of the labor-intensive salt production business, and prompted the company to diversify into tourism and other fields. At the Qigu Salt Fields we can see a representative example of the transition to tourism. The most unusual tourist attraction here is two white mountains of salt, four stories tall, whose pyramidal shapes you can see rising from the horizon from a distance of four or five kilometers. Besides these, here you can take a dip in the new "unsinkable sea," where the high salt content lets you float effortlessly on the surface.
Qigu Salt Mountains are about 20m high, and climbing up their stairs you can take in all that a fishing village has to offer. Aside from the joy of standing atop a salt mountain and facing into the gusty sea breeze, here you can also try other activities such as a bus tour that takes you around the mountains and to the surrounding salt pans, riding a dune buggy to experience the thrill of speed on the sand, or partaking in a fun “Salt Painting DIY”. You can also just stroll on the Lovers’ Bridge and enjoy the sunset, or ride a tandem bike around the salt pans ― an experience that will leave you completely relaxed and refreshed. One more thing you shouldn’t miss is the delicious “salty coffee” and “salty popsicle,” an incredible fusion of almond and salty egg yolk.
